GSM, Filling & Craftsmanship — Why the Same GSM Can Feel Different
Two identically-specified 300 GSM fabrics can still produce noticeably different finished toys, because GSM only describes the fabric itself — it says nothing about what happens after that fabric is cut, filled, and assembled.
Fabric type still matters at the same GSM. Crystal super-soft, short-pile, and teddy velvet fabrics can all be milled at 300 GSM and still feel meaningfully different in hand, shed differently, and pill at different rates over time — the type-level differences described in the comparison table above don’t disappear just because the weight matches.
Filling amount and quality change fullness and springback. How much PP cotton goes into the toy, and its quality grade, directly affects how full the finished shape looks and how well it springs back after being squeezed or hugged. 3. Hand-feel and premium perception matter more than unit cost. Ask for 300+ GSM paired with quality PP cotton filling, and confirm the craftsmanship method (embroidery vs. printing) for any design details — GSM alone won’t get you a premium result without matching filling and construction.
4. Your product is bound for a market with flammability requirements, such as the US. Don’t treat a heavier or more expensive-feeling fabric as a compliance shortcut.
